Turning Point
There are many reasons why the Declaration of Independence and the date
August 2, 1776 is a turning point in America's history. Before the signing of the Declaration, King George made all decisions for the colonies. The Declaration of Independence stated that the colonies were no longer under Britain's control and that America was our own country, a free country. America went from being ruled by one person to allowing people to vote and have a say in the laws. This turning point in America's history paved the way for the representative government and the rights that we have today. The men who were a part of the 2nd Continental Congress and wanted to become independent from Great Britain made a huge difference in the freedoms we have today. In 1787, delegates from 12 states wrote the Constitution. The Constitution consists of our individual rights, liberty, limited government, republican government and more. Some of these rights include-freedom of religion, freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, the right for women to vote, no slavery and more!
